Mr. Hendricks was born and raised in Miami. Following in his family’s footsteps, Mr. Hendricks has been practicing law in the Miami area for a number of years. While Mr. Hendricks has defended a number of major corporations and insurance companies in various types of civil cases including premise liability and automobile negligence, he specializes in the area of property damage and insurance coverage claims. Mr. Hendricks is currently the Division Leader of the Firm’s Windstorm division, which handles various residential and commercial property damage claims including a large number of claims stemming from the 2005 Hurricane season.

Mr. Hendricks first became interested in the legal profession during high school while clerking for a law firm that specialized in insurance defense. Mr. Hendricks graduated from Florida State University with a Bachelors degree in Social Science. During his undergraduate studies he became interested in history and sociology, especially the civil rights movement. After graduating Mr. Hendricks moved from Tallahassee back to Miami to attend law school.

Mr. Hendricks attended St. Thomas University School of Law. While at St. Thomas, he remained active in his community building homes for Habitat for Humanity. He also helped judge the 2006-2007 Miami-Dade County Mock Trial Competition, as well as the University of Miami 2007 Phi Alpha Delta State Mock Trial Competition. During law school, Mr. Hendricks was a frequent guest speaker for sociology classes. His lectures concentrated on the impact of the Long Sixties on America. Mr. Hendricks began his law career at Hardeman and Suarez as a law clerk. Before his final year of law school, Mr. Hendricks interned for the Transport Workers Union of America where he gain invaluable experience in the area of labor and employment law.

In his spare time Mr. Hendricks enjoys spending time with his wife and dog. He is also a major movie buff and sports fan. Derek is a die-hard Seminole, as well as a Heat, Marlins and Buccaneer's fan.
